Why wallow in this my passionless fate,
A rainbow of dreams I'm forced to rethink,
Where pragmatic voices gently dictate?
T'was love at our first encounter back then
A true partnership none else would equate.
Which well-meaning sense praised time and again
Yet detoured to paths more verdant and straight.
For Life took it's time to whisper the truth:
That poverty will contentment negate.
While tarrying at the crossroads of youth
Weak I was to heed what old wives would state:
The heart's choices paint not one's future pink.
That's why I write with invisible ink.

Long idle years have snowed upon
Untrodden floors an inch of dust;
Brass knobs, erst rivals of the sun,
Have shed their coats for autumn's rust.
Fingers shrewd that once leafed through
Each dog-eared tome with eagerness
Now deftly type a word or two
To start a vapid search process.
