I woke one balmy summer day,
  A few winks after dawn,
Got off the bed to stretch my legs,
  And stifled one big yawn.

My heart at once did skip a beat,
A chill went through my bones,
When I began to realize
  That I was not alone.

For bouncing off the concrete walls
  Was, much to my surprise,
A chirpy song both loud and clear,
  Belying the singer’s size.

A cricket! Oh, where can it be?
I knew I could not rest
Until I had evicted this
  Intruder from my nest.

I searched my humble one-room flat;
I searched it high and low:
Was it beneath my bathroom mat
Or on the top shelf? No.

Three quarters of an hour went by;
  My hopes began to fade.
My meager things lay strewn about
  Thanks to my futile raid.

Just when I was about to curse
  That song without a name,
My keen musician’s ear at last
  Discerned from where it came.

Thus underneath some dirty clothes
  All piled upon the floor,
I found the tiny culprit! Yes!
I had to search no more.

It stared at me with beady eyes
  And seemingly a smirk,
As if to say, “Now, wasn’t that fun?
But aren’t you late for work?”
Joel and the Cricket
A fictionalised version of a dear friend's experience with a cricket in his studio apartment one summer day a couple of years ago. :)  My first poem after a very very very long time!

I started on this soon after he told me the story but only came up with a measly two stanzas (the first and fifth). When I revisited it just yesterday, I had a few more ideas about how to plot it out and was happily able to complete it. Naturally I exaggerated a few facts but my friend is indeed a musician (founding member of a choir and conducted a few himself) and his soiled clothes weren't dumped on the floor. He's a very neat guy so he puts them into a hamper--which is where he found the cricket. ;)

I love music--classical mostly--and play the piano.
I like to read, I appreciate artwork/paintings and am interested in design and architecture.
But I'm no artist and I'm no poet either.
I just like to draw, experiment with Adobe Photoshop, take photographs of whatever catches my fancy and scribble down whatever nonsense gets into my head.
